Bigfoot Killer 1202 Bluetooth not installed

From the beginning the Killer 1202 driver installs the Wifi just fine, but the Bluethooth (BT) is never correctly installed. My device manager falls back to "Generic Bluetooth Adapter" and "Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator". What left is 8 Bluetooth Peripheral Devices under "Other Devices".

The driver I install is the latest, KillerSuite_v2_1.0.25.1224.zip, from http://pro-star.com/index.cfm?mainpage=download&modelno=P151SM1/P157SM/P170SM/P177SM#file

    Hello Rich,

When you download the zip file, did you make sure it's extracted before you run the setup? Sometimes running setup files directly from within a zip file can cause improper or partial installations. Make sure that you drag the folder out to desktop (extract) and then run the setup file. Also make sure that if you have any anti-virus programs that they're not blocking or interfering with the installation.

In case there's a possibility that there might be an issue with the BT installer packaged in that driver, try this driver directly from Qualcomm and let's see if that solves the problem:

The file is about 330MB and is compatible with all 64-bit versions of Windows 7, 8 and 8.1. Again make sure no anti-virus program is blocking or interfering with these installations and make sure that any zip packages are unzipped before running the setup file.

    Hi Vikonic,

I tried the qualcomm version before and same issue. I checked the files see which was later and the Pro-Star KillerSuite_v2_1.0.25.1224_Win7_Win8.exe is the later file, created June 26, 2013. Qualcomm version, KillerSuite_1.1.38.1281_Win7_Win8_Win81.exe, was created May 6, 2014 (and installs less items).

As I mentioned, 8 BT drivers show the yellow exclamation icon under "Others" in Device Manager. In Network Adapters it only show 2 BT devices, (Personal Area Network)#8 and RFCOMM Protocol TDI)#9. I rerun the install for BT and same result. My iphone5 show in BT device folder but I never connect the laptop.

The problem is the driver is an executable and I can't manually install from a file using Device Manager.

    Hi Vikonic,

OK, the version dates I mentioned means nothing. From Qualcomm Aethoros site, these are the version in chronological order. I installed all of them in order and none completed the install for the missing 8 Bluetooth items under the "Other" Device Manager" menu.

    KillerSuite_v2_1.0.25.1224 (version from Pro-Star)

    KillerSuite_v2_1.0.35.1273_Win7_Win8_Win81 (Archive version from Qualcomm)

    KillerSuite_1.1.38.1281_Win7_Win8_Win81 (latest from Qualcomm).

All of these are missing the driver for the BT chip on Qualcomm Aethoros 1202. This 1202 is marketed as BT 4.0 and supporting EDR, this is all great but as yet it not completely installed.

    "• Bluetooth

    — Supports High Speed and Low Energy operation

    — Supports Enhanced Data Rate (EDR) of both 2 Mbps

    (Ï€/4-DQPSK) and 3 Mbps (8-DPSK)"

Where can I get driver files to complete the BT install?

    Rich,

There's only 1 driver package as far as I know, and it contains the BT drivers too. Have you tried to manually update the driver? Basically, you would right click on the missing driver item, choose Properties, then Update Driver on the General Tab. Simply browse to the folder where the drivers have been extracted and make sure to check the box to look for sub-folders. This method should look for drivers inside the folder and apply them correctly.

After an aggressive driver search, I don't know the source or origin of a "inf" folder on my laptop. My backtracking could not locate where. Anyhow I was able to install the 8 missing Bluetooth profile drivers. Then I update the Microsoft BT Generic driver to "Qualcomm Atheros AR3012 Bluetooth 4.0 + HS" now all appears installed correctly. Unfortunately, my iphone5 still does not connect although laptop and phone discover each other. All BT profiles are version 8.0.0.228.

So maybe a web search for Atheros AR3012 Bluetooth (ver 8.0.1.304 driver details 9/3/2013) will find the drivers.

Rich, do you have any other device other than your iphone that you can test BT with? Do the phone and the PC even see each other? It might just be a matter of discovery on both devices, especially if the BT works with other things.

My iphone5 does not see the computer, but did on an older driver install the with missing BT drivers. I'm never able to connect. I've installed BT version 8.0.1.304 which is slightly older than Qualcomm Aethoros latest 8.0.1.312, that is an executable "KillerSuite_1.1.38.1281_Win7_Win8_Win81.exe". This does not install BT profiles.

The BT does not work with other things as yet. The laptop discovers the iphone5 but the iphone5 does not discover the laptop.

OK, I have wiped all drivers and did a fresh install. All the latest Aetheros driver are running. I observed though the Aetheros drivers use "Generic Bluetooth Adapter" and "Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator" for the BT profile (no Aethoros for profiles in Device Manager). Unlike before I have no uninstalled devices shown in Device Manager.

The Aethoros BT profiles, I installed that I mentioned, are newer than the Microsoft Generic BT.

My "Program and Features" always shows version "Qualcomm Aethoros Performance Suite 1.0.35.1273. It always reports installed although I've run uninstall many many times, including running the Aethoros Cleaner 64bit. So it appears the two Qualcomm Atheros Perfmance Suite are there, (but only 1 is actually installed).

So I've shown that the latest driver "KillerSuite_1.1.38.1281_Win7_Win8_Win81.exe" installs and leaves it up to Microsoft for BT profiles.

Lastly, as I mentioned, after clearing BT device folder, my iphone5 never sees the laptop and vice versa.

    Rich,

In the settings of the BT Suite, are there any options related to visibility of the notebook? It sounds like at some point your laptop was seeing the iphone however the iphone was not recognizing the laptop. Usually in this scenario the visibility options need to be checked to make sure both devices are discoverable. You've already wiped everything so that means any corrupt profiles are likely gone and that's probably not the issue.

If everything is OK with the operating system and you've tried numerous drivers without any success, it's possible that the BT module itself may be the problem and should be replaced. Since your system is still within warranty, we can explore that possibility as well if you'd like to try that for the next step.

    Kind regards,

I don't think its the Killer PCIe card hardware. At one point the laptop and iphone5 discovered each other (Microsoft BT drivers).

On the other hand if I replace with warrranty, is the replacement shipped out first, then I return the old unit? I don't want to go without wifi connectivity.

This BT connectivity is quite a regular problem with Visontek or Intel wifi card.

    Rich,

It may not be the hardware, especially if you had successful discoveries in the past. It might be just more complicated to get them to work than usual, which it technically shouldn't be. The idea behind replacing the hardware was to just check that off as another troubleshooting step.

As of right now, we do not have any killer wireless cards in stock that we can send out first. Thus, the replacement would require that you send in your card first. Of course, we understand that you don't want to be without Wifi as that would be inconvenient, considering this is a notebook after all.

I know that it's an Intel and as you've mentioned BT can sometimes be an issue with this and Visiontek cards, however if you'd still like to explore the idea of switching to this card or using it as a test until the killer is replaced, I can set that up for you. Frankly we sell quite a handful of these in most notebooks and we have not received any Wifi or BT complaints. If anything, from my personal experience Intel cards are known to have slightly more issues with WiFi than they do with BT, but these are just experiences on case by case basis.

Ultimately, you can continue to attempt to get the BT communication to work. If you can remember the steps taken in the past to get both devices to see each other in the EXACT order, it might be a key to getting the BT to work flawlessly from here on out.

If I can make a small suggestion, you could try to also run a live version of some kind of a Linux operating system, such as Ubuntu. Generic BT drivers that come with most linux distributions will likely recognize your killer card. If you can setup a communcation while in live Linux OS with your iphone without much troubles, then this would indicate that the issue is somewhere in the Windows OS or software. You've done a great deal of troubleshooting and cleaning the old software, however if the Windows OS is retaining any settings it may be affecting every driver install no matter how well you clean it. While I don't always like to suggest OS re-installation, doing this experiment with a Live Linux CD may point you that way. However, if it also runs into troubles connecting, then I think it's safe to say there may be hardware problems related to BT module.

Feel free to let me know what you'd like to do, and I will try to assist you as best as I can.
