For quite some time now (we're talking more than a year) my Realtek RTL8723AE will drop out everytime I have a large download.  It will stay connected to the wireless network but say "no internet access". I have to go into wireless adapter settings, disable the Realtek RTL8723AE, & then re-enable it, and then it will start working again.  I know it's not the router because none of my other devices using the router drop, not to mention that I've had more then one router over the last year and the problem occurred with all of them.  I would either like to know if there is some kind of fix for this issue (I've seen a lot of others on the web having the same problem with this wireless unit) or, if not, can you please recommend a replacement that will work with this configuration?  I'd prefer not to put in another Realtek RTL8723AE.  Thanks so much for the help!

    Hello,

I'm very sorry to hear about the problems you're having with the wireless card. Sometimes these adapters can be involuntarily be put to sleep by the OS, if the sleep function is enabled. Here's a guide on microsoft's website that shows you how to disable this function. :http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki/windows8_1-networking/wi-fi-wont-reconnect-after-sleep-or-hibernation/e5c5c60a-5787-4963-84cd-1ada6317b617

We recommend trying to disable the power option and then testing the card to see if the issue comes back.

    Kind regards,

I disabled the sleep function.  Hopefully that will be the fix.  Thank you for the quick response!

The fix didn't work.  I only seem to have the issue when I download large files.  It's not because the computer goes to sleep as I'm usually working on the laptop during the download.  Any other ideas? Is there a replacement for the Realtek RTL8723AE?

Sorry to hear that Dan, as far as the replacement for the RTL8723AE, there isn't an upgraded version to speak of, unless you want to switch to a completely different model or even brand of the card. You could try switching to something like an Intel Centrino card and see if that stops the problems.
