Overheating CPU on ASUS board

Hi, my AVA system has a P7P55D-E LX motherboard with a i5-750 2.66 GHz CPU. Lately I've been getting some multiple reboots on startup that are unexplained, and occasional other weirdness like long boot times. I had initially suspected the PC power supply as behind that. But in doing some PC diagnostics nothing's showed up as unusual except that today I find, using the some third-party hardware monitoring software (HW Monitor), that my CPU seems to be running hot sometimes. Many times the monitoring software says that it's at about 60-65 degrees Celsius, but at other times it goes up to the high 90s or more--when running a simulation game, for example, or even just sitting there within nothing else special running that I know of. I think that's too hot. The software says also that my CPU fan is running at around 2200 RPM and my "sysfan" at around 1250 RPM, which from what I gather is about normal. So that suggests the CPU fan is okay, but I don't necessarily trust the monitoring software numbers.

Any thoughts or suggestions on how I should proceed in dealing with this?

Thanks,

Eric

    Hello Eric,

If you could email [email protected]m with your AVADirect order number, we should be able to see your specific configuration and provide tailored advice.  If general advice is what you are after, I'd make sure your cooling device is free from dust and properly mounted to the CPU, also I use Realtemp to monitor the temperature of any CPU. As Realtemp very rarely produces any kind of false positive.
