    Hello Evan-0-matic,

I see a few ways we could upgrade your machine with a $500.00 budget, but it will all depend on the direction you wish to go. For example, do you primarily use this system for gaming? If so, the processor and memory are still excellent for the current demand of gaming, so investing all of that into an upgraded graphics card would introduce a night-and-day difference toward gaming performance.

If you wish to spread the budget, you could always consider upgrading the SSD to a larger capacity, that is, if you install games on the SSD to have the added benefit of significantly reduced loading times.

Feel free to reply with any questions!

Hello again, and thank you for the quick reply!

That's exactly what I was hoping to hear.
I did my best (with the help of this very forum) to 'future proof' my PC, thinking the only thing i would need to upgrade would be my video card.
As for the SSD, I've actually found that I don't use it much for games... Mainly as my boot drive and a few choice programs that I know will be on my system for the long haul (Photoshop etc). That being said, I've come hear to improve my gaming experience.

I would like to stick with EVGA Nvidia cards (unless you feel there's a better brand/ manufacturer to go with?)... Other than that I'm a little lost when it comes to which card series is the best value? The 80 series is fantastic I hear and the main reason I went with a 680. Then I read a news post on here today about the new 980's and how there 3 times as powerful as a 680?! Kinda blew my mind since this card still hasn't disappointed me, haha.

    What would you recommend?
Would I need to upgrade to a liquid cooling system?
    How about my power supply?

And lastly, and least importantly... Do you have any Nvidia cards that ship with MGSV? :)

    Thanks again!

    Hello Evan-0-matic,

Excellent, I am happy to be the bearer of great news. :-)

No, I do not think you will need to upgrade to a liquid cooling system, unless you are having constant problems with temperatures. The same goes for the power supply, 850w gives you a lot of headroom, which is why we always recommend  purchasing a slightly larger power supply, as it also extends the life of your machine.

For graphics, I highly recommend the GTX 980, it is perfect for your budget! Try to squeeze one of the superclocked models into your budget. If you are willing to wait, and save up a bit more, the GTX 980 Ti is an amazing value, considering it heavily competes with the performance of the TITAN X, when it comes to gaming.

Yes, if you purchase any 900 series graphics card from us you can expect a free copy of Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain.

The EVGA 980 Ti SC+ is exactly what I have my eyes on... Pricey card, but from what I've read it's well worth it. I may have to wait a bit and save up like you mentioned.

But that could give me time to deal with a couple more concerns...

With a card that powerful would the rest of my system (any part at all) create a 'bottleneck' in performance?

And this a loaded question... How hard would it be for me to install the card myself?
I've never done it before. I do maintain my tower myself (internal dusting etc) but when it comes to installing hardware I have no experience.
I'm not against the idea of sending my tower back to AVA (maybe you all can run some maintaince for me and see how she's running, haha) but no one wants to be away from there PC for too long.
And would my warranty cover any installation costs?

    Thanks again.

    Hello Evan-0-matic,

Excellent! Definitely a worthy card for upgrading!

For gaming, the Bottleneck will almost always be the graphics card. Processors, so long as they are clocked over 3.5Ghz, will provide very similar performance compared to the next.

Installing the card is not very difficult. Worst case scenario, if you need a different set of power supply cables for the card, you would just need to untie some cables from our cable management to gain access to them.

Our warranty would most definitely cover installation costs, so long as the card is purchased from us. Otherwise there might be an installation charges associated. You can speak with our technical support staff to confirm this.

You are very welcome, my pleasure!
