Custom Computer - NZXT Alpha / Intel Core i7 920 / 6GB DDR3
Custom Computer - NZXT Alpha / Intel Core i7 920 / 6GB DDR3 Some customers have a vision into what the most beautiful should look like. They select the options on our website and we start to build it. We then realize just how awesome a computer some of these systems really are. This system was chosen and configured by an actual customer and we are displaying it here for your viewing pleasure. You can click any picture for a bigger view
This is going to be quite the capable system. With the popular Core i7 920 and 6GB of memory, this system should be a powerhouse in everyday computing tasks. With a 4850 in there as well, expect to see this system take down any current game their is. This is one of the first systems that we put together with the Hyper N520 CPU cooler, which has become extremely popular in the past few weeks due to its smaller size and price tag. Works great and still a low-noise solution for Core i7 systems. Here are the complete specs for all of you look over.

Custom Computer - NZXT Alpha / Intel Core i7 920 / 6GB DDR3

This is my computer! It was shipped exactly 2 weeks after I placed my order. I've had the machine now for 1.5 weeks. Here are some thoughts:
+ The AVA team has taken great care in laying down the wires and keeping them out of the path of airflow. The wiring looks very neat and professional.
+ This case comes with a side window that has an embedded fan. The fan arrived unplugged, which was as expected. This allowed me to remove the side panel in order to extract all of the packing materials from inside the case. Thanks to Chris on tech support who very clearly talked me through installing the fan.
- After running the computer for a few hours, I noticed that the front fan (I had ordered an extra fan to be installed in the front of the case) was not spinning. After inspection, I realized that the fan was not plugged in. Unlike the side window fan, which was intentionally left unplugged, this fan seemed to have been overlooked. Not a big deal though. I plugged it into the motherboard without much trouble.
- I had paid extra to order a "silent" fan (versus a regular fan) for this front location. However, the fan is quite loud unless I slow it down to about 65% of its normal speed.
+ I had paid extra to use MX-2 thermal paste in the build. I thought AVA would just give me a few squirts from a big communal MX-2 tube, but instead they ordered a brand new tube for me and even sent me the leftover thermal paste! I don't know what I would do with the extra, but this gesture impressed me.
- I had read in various forums of others requesting photos of their computer as it was being built. I too requested these photos, but they were never sent. No biggie, but it would have been nice to see them. The photos in the post above are pretty neat though.
- I had asked about whether my graphics card would come with a DVI-to-VGA converter. I was told that AVA would know for sure once the video card arrived at their facility, but I was never notified of the answer.
-/+ The order was delayed a bit due to a scratch on the original NZXT case. Another case had to be ordered. The etiology of the scratch is unclear (whether it arrived scratched or was scratched during the build process). Although the delay was difficult to bear (I was anxious to receive the computer), I'm glad AVA took care to order a new case. The case that I received looks great.
+ The computer is running smoothly and is VERY FAST!! I'm dual-screening with two large monitors, and the graphics look awesome.
+ No company is perfect, and being a small company that custom-builds computers rather than mass produces them, it is expected that AVA will make some mistakes along the way. However, whenever I've contacted AVA, they have been responsive to my inquiries, and I trust that any problems that pop up will be responsibly resolved.
+ Overall, I am very happy with this computer and my experience with AVA. It is obvious that hard work was put into building this machine. I would recommend AVADirect to others and would consider buying from them again when I'm ready for a monster souped-up computer a few years from now. Thanks to the AVA team members for their effort in taking care of my order.
