Topic: Radeon HD 5970 Fan ProblemPosted: 15 Nov 2010 at 6:02am |

Hello again AVA!
I purchased a system from you about a year ago, and have been problem free until last night. One of my Radeon HD 5970's started making a loud grinding / clicking / rattling noise, and appeared to fail during startup. Based on all the online chatter about this, I gather it is a well known issue with a batch of defective fans on the early 5970 runs from all the major brands. I assume I will have to RMA the part for a fan replacement. Should I contact ASUS about it, or does AVA handle that directly? Thanks! ___________ Just in case you are wondering, I already took the following actions to troubleshoot: - Inspected the case for loose wires, debris, loose parts, etc... - Removed and inspected the part for physical damage or fan obstructions - Manually rotated the fan to reproduce the sound. - The sound is audible even at low speed. The fan is clearly loose in the housing, with about 1/8th inch vertical travel when the fan cavity is pointing downward (like it is when mounted in the case). |

The glass is not 1/2 empty, nor 1/2 full. The glass is simply too big.

That does sound like defective fans. You can contact Asus and get a direct RMA if you'd like, since you'll have to get the exact part. Their information: If you have other questions or need any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact myself direct, or any of our customer support agents. Thank you! |
