This looks like the rig I'm going to get this fall.
I'm not sure if you can modify one of the bottom front bays or not to fit the AFT 57U card reader?

Hey Crypt, why are ya getting rid of the side intake fan? I think if I decide to get the HAF X, I will definitely add another exhaust to the top, but am wondering if I should consider getting rid of the side.

BW85-
I'm getting another fan on top just didn't list it. As long as my rig will cool enough adding a top fan I would prefer no side fan. If I was going to a sli/quad rig I would add side fan for sure but, I'm not.

I am not entirely sure how the pressure of a case works, and how doing what to which fans change it, but are you making the top fan exhaust, as well? I figure getting rid of an intake would make dust less of an issue, but if you are just pulling the hot air away, and not necessarily bringing cool air in, would you see much of a difference in your temps? Reason I am asking is because I wanted to make the two top fans Megaflow, but not sure if it will even make a difference.

It will be something I'll go over with Joe when I order. See what he thinks I should do or not. I don't oc or leave my rig on 24/7 like everybody else does. I guess I'm fan challenged lol.

If you get yours before I get mine, let me know how it works out!
On another note (really don't intend to hijack your thread, Crypt!), if you could only afford one or the other, would you go with: HAF X + EVGA GTX 670 FTW or HAF 912 + EVGA GTX 680 |

I think the 670 is maybe 5(ish) FPS behind the 680; and that 690 is shmexy! You are one lucky dog if you get that!

Hey Crypt, since the HAF X has a window, and you HAVE to accent all the gorgeous guts (right?!), are you planning on doing any accent lighting?

You guys have to be careful with cool case mods :-p, those can become a money pit really quickly. From UV reactive cables, mounting brackets, to lights, LED strips and so on. I gotta say, HAF cases look great when properly accentuated.

I placed an order! I decided to go with the HAF 912 as my first build, to save money and see how the HAF cases grow on me. I didn't add fans or anything, I figure with no OCing my system wot get too hot. I'm stoked!

HSF: CM 212 EVO
CPU: 2011 I7 3930k
Videocard: EVGA GTX 690
STORAGE: (3) (All in friont bays)

WD SATA III HD: Crucial 256gb M4 SSD
Soundcard: HT Omega eClaro pci-e x1
DVD Blu Ray Burner Plextor Brand
CARD READER: AFT 57U

Do you think this rig could be put in any of these cases and stay cool if its not OC'd or left on 24/7 in a basement? Or is HAF X case the best choice by a wide margin?
HAF 922
HAF 932 advanced
Thanks

Hello Crypt,
Both are reasonably quiet, and cool cases so you should have no issues. I would go with the advanced if you want a little more expansion, otherwise the 922 would be great if your build will practically stay the same. |

Joe,
I have a couple of questions.
What do you think of the parts I choose?
I'm thinking about since boot drive is hotswap
I might order two drives and have you load 2 different copies of 7 so I have original copy and a backup copy of original state

Hello Crypt.
Your parts look good, just make sure the G.Skill RAM is low-profile, so we can install it alongside the CPU heatsink. You would want your boot drive to be hotswap? Why is that? Do you plan on having other discs with different operating systems on it? Two discs for redundancy really isn't necessary, that's what recovery partitions are for! If anything, you can purchase a large thumbdrive and store the recovery partition on that; should only take 25GB, and 32GB thumb drives are very cheap at the moment. You're welcome to ship us said thumb drive at that time. |
