I forgot to mention that I'd like to run the drives in RAID. Suggestions?

I'd also like to add that I'm trying to get the absolute best gaming experiance I can for $2700 or under. Any substitutions or additions to make this goal possible would be awesome. Thank you again!

Welcome to forum Spazymgee-
I really like the case and parts you picked on this rig nice job. I really like the CM X and the 932 advanced cases they are my top 2 choices for my next build from AVA. As far as the raid part no idea never had a raid system :).

Hello Spazymgee,
Welcome, fellow techie extremist! It will be my pleasure to assist you on your epic quest to obtain a custom desktop PC! Physically and electronically, your configuration is compatible. I do have some recommendations, based on my personal and professional experiences. -COOLER MASTER Silent Pro M 1000W, 80PLUS Bronze Unless you're married to it, I recommend considering either a Corsair or Antec power supply. There's nothing wrong with the Cooler Master brand, but we have had them fail more than Corsair and Antec power supplies; even when it's not the most popularly-purchased power supply we offer. That alone speaks volumes. -Corsair H80 Hydro (Should I switch to Fans? With a CPU clocked that fans...I worry. If so, which fan?) I would keep the H80, if you plan to keep the Vengeance RAM. High-profile RAM will not allow you to install a third-party CPU cooler, like the Cooler Master Hyper 212 for example. Keep in mind, all closed-loop systems run the risk of leaking, but that's not to say we have that issue a lot. Out of the thousands of Corsair H units we've sold, once has leaked in a custom build purchased from us. Corsair reimbursed the cost, fully, of all parts affected being we recommend their solid products on a consistent basis. So, even if it ever did happen you would be alright. If you don't feel comfortable, knowing this, then cooling by air will not hard your system in any way. Just make sure you choose low-profile RAM, like the Corsair Vengeance LP kits, and you're good to go. YES, YES, YES! You should definitely RAID 0 your Crucial M4 SSDs! Crucial has official RAID 0 support via their latest firmware, and I have this setup in my own system. I'm absolutely in love with it...there's one downside though...it decreases your patience with other computers you may utilize, so use at your own risk! |

Thanks for the reply
I decided against the water cooling system due to any real experience with it. I'd rather not have to worry about it. Like you said, I switched my RAM to the Vengeance LP 16GB Kit. Which cooling fan would you recommend? Also, which Corsair or Antec supply would you substitute? Edited by spazymgee - 13 Jul 2012 at 2:58pm |

You're very welcome, spazymgee, always a pleasure! Excellent choice! Although I completely love what wwater cooling both custom and closed-loop, can do for a system sometimes it's not worth having to worry over, especially if you have no experience and/or simply do not want to take the risk. There are many coolers out there that claim to be the best. From our experience, the Cooler Master Hyper 212 CPU coolers have done the best job thus far. They not only help to obtain the best idle and full-load temperatures, but the $30.00 price tag is amazing to receive those results. http://www.avadirect.com/plist.asp?keywords=hyper+212 Since you originally opted for the COOLER MASTER Silent Pro M 1000W power supply, I would stick with the same power rating; especially if you plan to expand the system beyond the GTX 670 SLI. Besides the graphics cards, you don't have any set of components that you specifically need to worry about power draw with. Unless, if you ever decide to deck out your system with a custom liquid cooling loop, then you'll need to consider perhaps a larger power supply. BUT, until that ever crosses your mind, here's what I recommend. Corsair - http://www.avadirect.com/product_details_parts.asp?PRID=21058 Antec - http://www.avadirect.com/product_details_parts.asp?PRID=20809 Corsair, obviously, being the more "premium" of the two, but that doesn't discount Antec for having a low failure rate, compared to other power supplies. I'm the type of individual that's willing to pay for quality, if it's within good reason, so I opted for a Corsair HX power supply in my own system. Have you given more thought into the Crucial M4 RAID 0 setup? I'm sure I appeared quite agreesivaggressivesubject; I was really just excited to see another indivduaindividualted in the same solution. Remember, though, even though there's official support there's always a slight risk when using RAID. Single SSDs can be read through S.N.A.R.T. status applications, informing you of their health. However, once in RAID that no longer exists, so you basically blindly use the SSDs never knowing how they're doing...that's why you backup your data on a daily basis, and then there's no need to worry.
