Hey guys, hope everyone's been doing great! As the time get closer that I can FINALLY order this thing
, I was wondering about how AVA packs and ships their machines.
If the machines are constructed/shipped from the same address, it is just shy of 500 miles from me. A straight drive, that is roughly 8 hours of travel time. That is quite a bit of time for a delivery driver to be on the road, including other stops and deliveries. It also is more time for errors; potholes, driver woke up on the wrong side of the bed, boxes bumping against each other, etc. I was wondering what sort of precautions AVA does, if any, to help secure the transportation process. Are all items double-boxed? Stuffed with air packets or peanuts? Can we request a certain packing material? Is there any writing on the box to let the driver know it is valuable and expensive cargo? Is your automatic delivery choice UPS? |

Hello BW85,
We're doing excellent, thanks for asking! We hope you're doing well yourself, and cannot wait to begin building your system! The best part of my job is hearing what you think of our craftsmanship. As you can imagine, we receive this questiona lott. The answer should alleviate all of your concerns during the shipping process. First, we pack all of our computers internallyusingg a custom-made packing material that form-fits to the specific system it is applied to. Then, we place the computer inside of the tower box, which is then placed inside of another larger box filled with packing peanuts. Within the 12+ years of AVADirect shipping computers in this fashion, it has yet to fail us! If you have more questions or concerns, regarding how AVADirect takes care of our computers feel free to continue posting! PS - I enjoyed your little rendition of how a delivery driver could mess up a shipment terribly. We too feel, no matter how great of a relationship you have with a shipper, you truly cannot rely on them to handle your packages with care, which is why we do our best to package our computers appropriately |

AVA does a great job packing. My only rule is 2nd day or overnight is only shipping options I do, less time with shipper. My system was in great shape when it arrived.

I bet that shipping costs a pretty penny, though lol. Although, I know you live quite a bit further away from the warehouse than I do!

Oh yeah, also, when I figure up the price and "Add to Cart", the tax doesn't reads 0.00. Do the prices of the parts reflect taxes?

Shipping costs are high but, rather have a whole system not a puzzle lol. As far as taxes I would think that only applies in Ohio so your all set.
Your lucky your so close you could drive and pick up your rig yourself :)

I had thought about that! Get a chance to maybe meet Joe, since he's practically held my hand through this whole process lol. I knew absolutely diddly squat before I heard of AVA and asked Joe probably close to a thousand questions. I'm not sure I'd be able to convince my fiancee to make about an 18-hour trip to Ohio to pick me up a computer. In fact, when I told her how much I'd probably be spending, she goes, "Why don't you just get that one we saw at Best Buy on sale for like $400?" And I go, "Why don't you go LIVE in a VAN, down by the RIVER!" (Chris Farley's SNL reference, I'm sure you got it lol).

If I lived closer I would have stopped by and met Joe he is one cool dude. No worries about I've asked him 10 million questions in the last few years and he still talks to me :). Yeah when I was looking around for a custom pc builder I checked out boards and reviews on each different places. I found AVA and was totally impressed. AVA has prices closest to what you can get at Newegg. I will be 100% honest here the top 4 reasons I picked AVA
1. Joe Mundy- Nice to have a sales person that is right there available at moments notice. He always is friendly and not high pressure buy now guy that really advises you on parts etc. He tells you hold off a bit get the rig you really want that's way cool and very much appreciated and rare in todays world.
2. Prices close to Newegg
3. Options- AVA has way more options available vs other companies. Not every customer wants OC or watercooled systems only. Or a very few different availlable parts.
4. The forum it is so cool to talk and learn about computers from different customers with different visions on their dream system.

Hopefully the AVA community doesn't mind when we veer off topic; aside from getting questions answered, I enjoy being able to communicate with fellow PC enthusiasts and get to know them a bit better!

LOL! Both of you gentleman are too much!
No, veering off topic is quite all right, and it happens. It's not like we're going to provide you with off-brand parts, or anything, as the end result.

Lol. Since the HAF X comes with casters, do you guys put them on and then do the form-fitting packing? Or do you just ship them and it's up to the user to install them?

That's a good question, I believe the casters are left in the motherboard box to install them if you wish. Although Joe may need to correct me on this if I'm wrong.

We've actually had complaints about casters being pre-installed. Some individuals have specific size requirements, and choose a case based on the fact the casters will not be pre-installed, so we leave them be. If you a request to add them, before we ship, we can certainly do that for you!
