Custom Gaming System - ThermalTake Lanbox Case / Intel OC Q6600 3.0 GHz / 9800 GTX

Here is another system of my favorite type, mATX.  While a mATX system will never be as powerful, good looking, or cheaper than an ATX system, there is just something about something smaller that performs just as well as a full sized system.  Also the case and the components selected make for a very well rounded LAN system.  While somewhat heavier than expected, the carrying handle really does help in moving around the system.

We will start off with an overclocked Q6600 bumped to 3.0 GHz.  This clock speed puts it right in extreme territory and the extra performance shows in the benchmarks.  The 9800 GTX was about 2 inches to long and 1 slot too wide for the case, as the floppy drive area blocked the card.  While a single slot card like an 8800 GT would have fit, we had to cut away some of the floppy drive bay to make this card fit.  4GB of Corsair memory is all that is needed for this type of system and that is what the customer chose.  A Corsair PSU powers the whole thing and is also a very nice component.

However, I noticed and I am sure you will too is that there is no disk writer drive.  With only a DVD-ROM, you cannot burn a DVD or CD.  While this person may have no use for such a drive, with the prices today, a DVD-RW drive would have only cost $10 more over the regular drive.

We achieved a 3.0 GHz total overclock from 2.4 GHz using a FSB of 333 MHz and a multiplier of 9x.
