Would anyone know when avadirect will be offering the GTX 260 as a gpu option (Mr. Slagle Smile ).

My procrastination has finally payed off with better gpu option to decide upon Embarrassed.

Son of a gun, the gtx260 IS in the configuration option and unless otherwise dissuaded is gonna be my video card of choice

Still no EVGA GTA 260 option yet but I hope it'll be close to XFX $403. There's no brainer. GTA 260 beats in 8800 ultra in some games, yet it's 100 cheaper (comparing XFX cards) than younger brother 8800 GTX.

Is XFX brand a well known one? I don't plan to enroll in EVGA step up program but I'd rather stick with EVGA but if XFX is a decend card maker, I wouldn't mind sticking with XFX.

I'm waiting to see how ATI's 4870 performs to decide, but the GTX 260 does look like a great card.Certainly superior to the 9800 GTX I was originally considering.

This card is being offered as a configuration option .

XFX, e-GeForce® GTX 260 576MHz, 896MB DDR3 2000MHz, PCIe x16 SLI, DVI /2, HDTV-Out, Retail

I would like any opinion on the value of this card as my choice for a gpu option.

Would it better to consider the hd 4850. Price difference is not a consideration. Thanks

The reason why XFX is cheaper is that is the only company who we are able to buy from directly.  Thus because of that, we pass on the savings to you.  All the other companies require us to buy from distributors which raises the prices.

As far as the new GTXs vs the 4850, the clear winner is the GTX in overall graphic processing.  That is because the GTX has alot of shader power, more graphic processing power, and a wider memory bandwidth.

However, the 4850 is only using GDDR3 memory.  When the GDDR5 versions of the 4850 and 4870, the memory is gonna make a big difference.  Also since the 4800s have 800 stream processors compared to the GTXs 240 and 192 respectively, the ATI GPUs actually have more processing power.  In fact, the ATI video cards have 10x more processing power than a Core 2 Extreme running at 3.0 GHz.

But you also have to think about what is going to work with what.  Crossfire works on Intel/AMD chipsets, and I have heard little to no complaints about any Intel boards.  While the new 700 series NVidia boards have been such a headache these past few weeks.  I personally value stability and value more over complete dominance in performance.

Yes, XFX is a well known, and a well respected manufacturer. There are three companies who are considered the best nVidia video card partners... eVGA, BFG Tech, and XFX. While eVGA and BFG Tech have Step-Up programs, XFX has a double lifetime warranty (which means the original owner can transfer the lifetime warranty to someone else). You really can't go wrong with any of those three manufacturers.

A Chinese website, Exp Review, released their review of the HD 4870 today. It's being discussed in this thread on the [H]ard Forum. Basically, it looks like it beats the GTX 260 across the board even with AA and AF. It even manages to match the GTX 280 in some games, especially when 8xAA and AF are turned on.

If the HD 4870 really does perform this well (and reviews are officially allowed to be released tomorrow), at a $299 price point, it will become THE card to buy. Even if you prefer nVidia video cards, nVidia will be forced to lower their prices.

The best thing is that if one HD 4870 performs this well, imagine how well the HD 4870x2 will perform, especially if the rumors are true and it will use shared memory to communicate instead of CrossFire!

Andon, I have been seeing this around the net, but have been unable to find any real proof or reviews that this works.

Apparently Diamond, an ATI VAR, has created a special software package called xDNA which allows 2 of their cards to run in Crossfire on any chipset.  That means users of the 700 series chipsets can use Crossfire.

However, like I said, no proof or reviews that this is actually possible, but it would be nice to find out.

Wow! That would be pretty nice. I'll keep an eye out for that info.

I'm pretty sure that only the HD 4870 will have GDDR5.

If the 4870 really comes out 2morrow, it'll be great for me. However, if it's gonna be delayed to july I'ma just go with the 260

Reviews for the 4870 are starting to come out: http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1318901
Considering the price/performance with Nvidia's new offerings, this card is looking like a winner.

Wow all these new cards coming out has left me confused.

I guess what i'm asking is what would be the gpu to get if you're not a hard core gamer and use a monitor no bigger than 22 inches.

Would it even be better to stick with an older card like the 8800 gts because of their expected lower pricing.
