Intel Introduces High Speed Optical Connectivity



Intel has released a new technology to the public that will change the way computers operate, as well as the way we live. The technology is code-named "light peak". The name originates from the means data is transferred, through light rather than electricity. The bandwidth that is capable through this optical connection is practically limitless; 10Gb/s with the ability to harness a 100Gb/s connection within the next decade. More importantly, the cables are more flexible and can connect to more than one source without any loss in performance. Intel already has a notebook featuring this technology, in which they showcased in Brussels. Not only will this solution be affordable to a majority of end-user throughout the world, but Intel hopes to replace PC connections such as USB, DisplayPort, and HDMI with this technology.
