Gaming mouse "on a budget"

Hey all, I am looking into these two mice:

The G600 seems to be brand new, and very little reviews on it, but the G9x seems to be very well-liked. Would it be too farfetched to assumed the G600 is a replacement for the G9x?

Also, I have never used a mouse with more than 2 buttons before. Are they easier to use than assigning hotkeys to a keyboard? Is it true that once I use once, I'll never feel right using a standard mouse again?

    BW85,

It's hard to make recommendations for mice. The best piece of advice I can give you is to go to a local electronics store like Best Buy or Microcenter and get a feel for each mouse. Basically, get the one that fits best in your hand and the one that's most comfortable for you. Most mice nowadays are capable of 1600DPI and more which is more than enough for gaming.

Also, regarding the last bit you said about never going back to a standard mouse, this is true. I've been using the Logitech MX518 mouse since 2005, this is now over 7 years and I still cannot get myself to buy anything else. It's simply perfect weight, shape and the side buttons work really well for not just gaming, but every day use like web browsing and so on.

G9x and the G600 and the successors of the MX518 base, therefore I'm sure they're as good if not better. However, it's best to try them both and see which one feels the best.

I understand what you mean, about getting a feel for them! As for the DPI, the two mice I linked have over 5,000 and 8,000 - how does this relate to gaming? More precise control?

    Hello BW85,

A mouse DPI has nothing to do with how precise or accurate a mouse has it's movement tracked. If that's something you're interested in, you will want to look into mice that have a high "polling rate". That is the interval of time in which the mouse reports it's movement to the computer. If it's higher, it reports movement more frequently thus resulting in smoother, more accurate mouse movement. DPI is basically the sensitivity of the mouse, so the higher you set it the less movement it will take for the mouse to move great length; not necessarily a must for games that like a lot of room to move the mouse while reacting to the game environment. Although, many people prefer the high DPI if their reaction time can keep up with it. Less physical movement of the mouse for more movement in the game requires precision, but if you're able to handle it you can take people out quickly in first person shooters, before they even have a chance to react.
