Good computer set up for 2nd life

I've been in PC gaming for awhile and it seems 2nd life is perhaps one of the most demanding OPEN GL games out there. It seems like you have to spend thoushands of dollars to achieve 30 FPS in some of the busy areas of the game (packed nightclubs).  Has anyone here looked at 2nd life and perhaps come up with a computer designed to handle the graphical requirements without busting the budget of the average user? Any thoughts would be appreciated.. Buc

Hello Buccaneer and welcome to AVAForums!

The low frame rates of Second Life, in highly populated areas, is a combination of both graphics card power and network connectivity. You could have the fastest graphics card available, but be held back by a slow internet connection.

First, you will want to make sure you have a fast internet connection. Something around 15Mbp/s should suffice.

For the graphics card, you can start off with something like these.

Depending on your budget. Look into a motherboard that supports SLI, so if the graphics card does not cut it after a while, you can add another in the future and boost the performance.
