Hot Games of 2016 – DOOM

DOOM
DOOM – Launch Trailer

The hype for the new DOOM game developed by id Software and published by Bethesda Softworks will either live up to expectations or die with the build up today. The first person shooter has seen immense success in the past three versions and each company plans on keeping that going.  The hype for the game has been so colossal that Bethesda Softworks wouldn’t even send our friends over at IGN more than a preview of their single player first person shooter campaign mode.

Why the hype? I think that can be simply answered with the fact that we’ve waited 4 years for the next release and over 12 years since the release of the authentic third release. Originally it was called Doom 4 until id Software changed the name to DOOM to represent the fourth version of the series that was rebooted back in 2013. Multiple members of the previous staff are saying around to keep the tradition going with some newcomers that were brought in by Marty Stratton. The idea behind the reboot was to keep the game along its original path from Doom 1 and 2, and stay away from the previous release.

There has been buzz from previous teasers that have been released to keep the momentum for the release relevant. The first official trailer was leaked on June 10th, 2014 which was shown with a robot from the planet Mars morphing into a demon. From there, a shotgun is loaded where the robodemon presents itself to what is believed to be our main character. The next big step for Bethesda was the release of a game trailer on May 18th, 2015, where we were able to see just a glimpse of a shot being fired followed by missiles shouting through the air. The final sneak peek we had for the game was uploaded on February 4th, this year to Youtube with a full trailer and the official release date for the game, May 13th.

The plot of the new game as stated before is a reboot of their previous versions, set on the planet Mars, with a UAC facility that is being invaded by the forces of Hell. The reason why the invasion is coming forth is because of the demons that were constructed through corrupt experiments at the facility. The small snippet that we have seen is our main character chained to an alter where he then awakens in the UAC basement.  He escapes imprisonment where he then gains his praetor suit and scurry’s across the mars surface into the dark.

id software announced that the game will be built on id Tech 6 game engine which happens to be their own system.  The improvements this will hold is better graphics than their previous makes, a higher framerate for both our console and computer users, and a higher quality multiplayer mode that would have any gamer salivating.

What takes DOOM over the top? I already mentioned that they will be using their own software to produce the game with better graphics than ever before, but DOOM SnapMap may be something to even top it. This allows for limitless gameplay on any console that will help even the most novice users combine and customize their own maps. Another exciting feature is the behind the scenes look at what it takes to be a demon, where you can play the game from the other side.

Will DOOM will live up to all the expectations that the gaming community has hyped it up to be? We think so, but don’t just take our word for it, play TODAY and make that decision for yourself!
