Custom Gaming System - Antec Twelve Hundred / Core i7-965 Extreme / Gigabyte X58 / 6GB Dominator XMP / BFG GTX 280 SLI

Some customers have a vision into what the most beautiful should look like.  They select the options on our website and we start to build it.  We then realize just how awesome a computer some of these systems really are.  This system was chosen and configured by an actual customer and we are displaying it here for your viewing pleasure.

Antec knows how to make a great case.  The Antec 1200 is a nice big case for all the people who need 2+ video cards and overclocked top of the line processors.  Also this case has tons of front mounted expansion slots to fit those numerous hard drives and bay devices.  This system is filled to the brim with extra goodies and the care from our sales and assembly team was able to make this system come together.

Ever since the Core i7 came out, the benchmarks will never be the same.  I will forever be used to seeing above 10 GB/s memory transfers and 3DMark06 scores past 20K.  The days of hitting 6 GB/s memory speeds and 10K 3DMarks are gone and will no look out of place.

Hopefully the owner of this system comes in for a review.  I have yet to hear how those 150 GB VelociRaptors and the 1.5 TB drives work together.  It will be interesting to see his take on some of the components we put in there.

We were able to achieve a 3.86 GHz OC using core multiplier of 24x and bCLK of 160 MHz.

Very nice machine congrats. It was nice to see a machine with alot of specs mine will have whenever I can order. I hope a machine with similar specs with Cosmos S case will surface soon.

So far so good...getting the new PC was awesome even though UPS tried to make it as difficult as possible. It all worked out in the end.

No real hefty impressions to relay as yet. So far I'm just trying to get things working like the last PC. Lots of stuff I'd adjusted over the years that I have to figure out all over again (like turning of UAC for instance). So it's been sort of 'putting out fires' so-to-speak thus far.

I was able to download and install Futuremark Vantage and scored up in the mid 20k range on the PERFORMANCE settings. The CPU scores WAY up there in the mid 40k range. It's the graphics cards that seem to fall WAY below what the top score is (about 1/2 actually). So there is probably something that I'm needing to tweak to get the scores up. I'll have to do some research into that later.

I'll post back when I've actually had time to get used to the PC and gotten the settings all figured out. Hopefully I can get those graphics scores up there. I'm almost guessing that the difference might be attributed to SLI...although the details don't specify wether SLI is present or not. Or it could be the fact that I've got 6 gigs of ram and the top scorer had 2 gigs. I'm guessing that I might score higher with a single stick of ram, but what fun would THAT be!?

I'm off to install a few games and give this thing a proper test-drive! Back later with more.

    Paul,

Those people who score that high are overclocking to 5 GHz on their CPU and overclocking there cards up 20% as well.  However they are using liquid nitrogen setups and fry computers every single day just trying to get the highest scores.

Your not gonna come anywhere close near those scores Paul, its impossible.

However, you can try using RivaTuner to adjust the OC on the cards.  A 5-10% OC on the video cards will lead to a somewhat noticeable increase and should still be stable.  I overclocked a 4870X2 and jumped from a 22,000 to 24,000 in 3DMark06.  Keep your fans at 75% and above though to keep the GPU cool and happy.

Is it true I7 965 CPu's are best for OC'ing not at standard speed?

The Core i7 965s were designed to be overclocked.  Although the 920, 940, and 965 all come from the same silicon, only the 965 passed the highest of quality standards.  Thus the 965 can more than likely overclock the highest.

I've heard of some well, I don't want to 'problems' but difficulties scoring high with a 280 SLI on graphics benchmarks. I read that in the Adobe forums, I think. I'll try to find it again. I DO know that Adobe doesn't support SLI for now. Not sure why, but that's the only reason I ordered mine with a single 285. In fact, if I can find it again, I'll post it, but I'm sure it's probably due to the OC issue mentioned here. If anyone hears differently, let me know?
