i7-4810MQ versus i7-4910MQ

There seems to be a small difference between these two processors - 2Mb of L3 cache and a small difference in clock speed. Does not seem to be worth the $323 difference. Can you check on the pricing? Some sites suggest a price difference of about $200 between the two.

Firstly, why the large price difference?

Secondly, can either of these CPUs be overclocked?

Thanks for any information you can provide.

    CAC,

That is correct, 4910MQ sees a boost of 100Mhz clock speed and extra 2MB of L3 Cache. Our pricing is updated daily based on the trusted vendors and the price listing they provide. While our website doesn't always reflect lowest prices available per item, it is usually reflected in the overall build compared to other system builders out there.

While the 100Mhz extra may not be noticeable, the 30% increase in L3 cache is certainly a bonus, and may be worth the extra cost to some. However, in your situation the 4810MQ could be more than what you need, making it a better value for money.

As for the overclocking, these mobile CPUs only utilize the Turbo boost technology and go up to 3.8Ghz and 3.9Ghz (for 4810 and 4910). You will not be able to overclock Clevo notebooks and their CPUs under official BIOS versions. Unofficial versions may be overclockable but they're not supported by AVADirect or Clevo, and they would void your warranty.

    Kind regards,
