Lawrence School Students Complete Internship Shadowing Program at AVADirect
Twinsburg, OH — July 17th, 2025 — AVADirect Custom Computers recently welcomed students from Lawrence School as part of the school’s senior internship capstone project. The program is designed to give students meaningful, real-world experience before graduation, helping them prepare for both college and the workplace.
“The internship-based senior project has been an integral part of Lawrence School’s high school experience since its inception,” Domenic Iorillo, Co-Director of College and Career Planning shared. “We were inspired to create this opportunity to provide students with real-world exposure beyond the classroom.”
The internship program helps students better understand potential career paths and encourages meaningful engagement with the community. According to the school, it allows local organizations to see the strengths, talents, and perspectives their students bring, showing that language-based learning differences can be powerful assets in a professional environment.
While shadowing at AVADirect, students observed day-to-day operations, interacted with professionals, and gained insight into the inner workings of a business. For some, the experience helped confirm a strong interest in a specific field. For others, it offered clarity about paths they may choose to avoid.
“The primary objective is to help students explore and clarify their academic and career interests before graduation,” Domenic Iorillo, Co-Director of College and Career Planning stated. “Just as important, the experience is designed to develop essential life skills such as time management, professional communication, reliability, and independence.”
The program also reinforces critical soft skills like adaptability and self-advocacy. Students build experience working with diverse teams, navigating new environments, and practicing key habits such as punctuality, planning, follow-through, and initiative.
The partnership also serves as a bridge between Lawrence School and the local business community, creating meaningful connections that benefit both students and participating organizations. By providing authentic workplace experiences, the program helps students navigate career expectations and responsibilities while allowing local businesses to engage with motivated, talented young professionals.
As a school that serves students with language-based learning differences, Lawrence School sees the internship as an important extension of its mission. “This program is a powerful example of our belief that learning differences do not define limits. They define strengths.”
